PRE-CONFERENCE TOUR:

The Falkirk Wheel is an exceptional feat of modern engineering and is already being recognised as an inspirational sculpture for the 21st Century. Owned and operated by British Waterways it is designed to reconnect the Forth and Clyde Canal and the Union Canal and is sited in a natural open amphitheatre at Rough Castle near Falkirk. This remarkable and elegant mechanical marvel is the only rotating boatlift in the world and truly one of a kind.

The pre-conference tour will leave from The University of Strathclyde at 11:00 on Wednesday 23rd June, and a light lunch will be provided at the wheel. Presentations will be given on the concept, design and operation of the wheel followed by a site tour, including a boat lift.  Buses will return in time for registration to the conference. Places will be limited to 50 on this pre-conference tour.
