Rollers - Compaction of the materials used in embankment dams and RCC dams can be achieved by using rollers. They are heavy pieces of equipment, either included as part of a vehicle, or towed behind one. The roller is driven backwards and forwards over a thin layer of the material, and its weight gradually compacts the material down.
