BDS sponsor students from universities in full-time education and YINI students to attend dams-related courses/seminars. In the past, this has included the BDS Conference, the Barcelona ICOLD Conference and the 10-day training course at Ridracoli, Italy entitled "When man meets nature".
For the 2009 BDS Student Competition, students were asked to submit the following:
- An essay up to 1000 words on the topic “The Benefits of Dams”.
- A one-page application outlining which event you wish to attend, what you would gain from the experience, why you wish to take part and why you should be selected.
The results of this year’s competition have now been announced. Congratulations go to:
The winner, Claire Ward, who will be funded to attend her preferred choice of conference - the Austrian ICOLD Conference in Innsbruck, 22 -23 September 2010.
Qinli Yang, who has received 2nd place prize money of £200.
Keith Macpherson, who has received 3rd place prize money of £100.
